Customer Stories: It’s been correctly installed by an expert. Can’t fault them.
John brought his Tesla Wall Connector to match the aesthetics of his Model Y and to keep everything all-in-one through the Tesla app.
What made you choose the vehicle that you bought?
I ordered a Model Y pretty much down to the strength of the Supercharger network. It’s a company car and I’m doing a lot of miles with trips from Bristol and up to Scotland sometimes.
So I wanted a reliable and fast charging network to get me up and down the country.
I also just liked all the tech in the car around navigation and setting my mind at ease around charging on the road.
I’m personally not a fan of how the Model Y looks, but I’m really happy with how it drives.
What made you decide to get a home EV charge point installed?
As I do so many miles it’s likely that I may top up at the Supercharger network to get me home, but I won’t fill the battery up all the way.
So it means that when I get home, the car is usually close to empty and I’ll need to get back out again on another job.
I’m switching to Intelligent Octopus Go so I can get that cost down for charging as much as possible overnight.
Did you find the world of EV charging at home confusing initially?
I didn’t realise there were different charging speed options for what you can have at home.
I know the 7kW home charger, but I’ve since been really interested in the faster home charging speeds, particularly because I need to charge so often due to work.
How did you find Smart Home Charge?
I searched online through a few installers.
I like that Smart Home Charge is a one-stop shop, you can choose your charger, choose financing and get all the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) paperwork sorted.
What made Smart Home Charge stand out from other installers?
The thing that really convinced me was looking through all the good reviews.
I always look through reviews online before I buy or go ahead with a service.
What made you choose the charger you bought? Is design important?
The Wall Connector just goes hand in hand with the Model Y.
I wanted to keep everything between the car, the app and the charger within that same brand.
I’m not too bothered about design, but having said that, I’ve seen some much older home chargers on my street and they look huge, boxy and dated.
So I’m actually quite pleased with how small the Wall Connector is on the front of my house.
It’s pretty much hidden by the car when I’m parked up.
How did you get on with the online site survey? Did you find it easy to follow?
It was all straightforward. I took some pictures and a video and that was all self-explanatory.
How would you rate your installer(s) and the work they did? Did they arrive on time?
I got a phone call ahead of the visit to say he was en route and he turned up when he said he would. He was a very knowledgeable guy. I’m a stickler for attention to detail, but I couldn’t fault his work. He swept up outside and left it all clean and tidy. He was great.
Did they suggest any alternative cable routing for your charger?
It was a pretty straightforward installation because my fuse box is right by the front door. I did want the position adjusted slightly, just so it was easier for my kids to get their bikes through. That was all no problem.
Did the installer go the extra mile? For example, did they show you how to use the charge point’s app?
The installer set up the app and tested it to show me it was all working. He gave me tips on how to use it and I was picking his brains for advice.
What would you say to someone who is looking to buy a home EV charging point and is considering Smart Home Charge?
The proof is in the pudding. I’ve got a charger installed with a minimum of fuss. All the paperwork has been sorted and I know it’s been correctly installed by an expert. Can’t fault them.
