Get to know your Hypervolt Home

We've created this page to help you understand your EV charger so you can get the most out of it and deal with any potential hiccups along the way. Get started with these key features for your Hypervolt.

Setting up a schedule

+

The Hypervolt can be configured to start and stop charging a connected vehicle at particular times, such as during the off-peak times of your energy tariff.

To set a charge schedule, open the hypervolt app and:

  1. Tap on the mode button, which will be showing 'plug and charge' or 'Schedule Charge'.

  2. Tap 'Schedule Charge'.

  3. Tap the "add session" option

  4. Select the time you want your charge schedule to start and end using the drop-down boxes.

  5. Tap "next"

If successful, the app will show you a summary of your charge session telling you how long the schedule will last and an estimate of how much range and energy will go into a plugged in vehicle after the session has ended.

If you are happy with the figures in the summary, tap 'Apply'.

Switching charging modes (solar panel owners only)

+

If you have solar panels, there are three ways in which you can utilise the Hypervolt's solar charging capabilities. These are:

  • "Super Eco" - Uses only solar energy to charge your car (at a minimum of 1.4kW).

  • Eco - Prioritises solar energy but if the sun goes in or energy produced drops too low it reverts to a stable 1.4kW trickle charge from the grid & solar or just grid.

  • Boost Mode - Charges at full power (7kW/32amps) using any available (solar and grid) power.

What do the different coloured lights mean?

+

The Hypervolt has two sets of LED lights one on the front which iluminates the lightning bolt on the front and another which encircles the inner edges of the charging point. These LED lights will glow different colours depending on the status of the charger.

Solid Blue: The charger is ready to use but no electric vehicle is plugged in

Pulsing Blue: The charger has detected that a vehicle is plugged in but is waiting for the vehicle to start charging

Rapid Pulsing Blue: A charging session has been stopped via the app

Pulsing white: The charger has lost internet connection

Solid Green: A connected vehicle is charging

Solid Green (reduced bolt glow): A connected vehicle is charging but at a reduced power rate

Flashing Green: The charger is waiting on random delay

Solid Purple: A schedule has been set on the connected app but no vehicle has been plugged in

Pulsing Purple: A vehicle is plugged in with the charger waiting to start charging according to a set schedule

Solid Yellow: The charger is inhibited due to the lack of solar export (Only occurs when in super eco mode)

Pulsing Yellow: Not enough solar power to charge a plugged in vehicle

Solid Orange: The charger is locked

Flashing Orange: The charger is locked and has detected that someone is trying to use it

Solid Red: The charger's safety system has been activated and the unit is no longer charging a plugged in vehicle

Charger isn't working? Check these steps first!

Most EV chargers are very reliable and should charge your vehicle as intended. However, there are lots of variables with EV charging that can occasionally interrupt this process. Make sure you've checked the below before moving on to the advanced troubleshooting steps further down the page, as there could be a simple solution to the problem.

Is the cable plugged in correctly?

+

As part of a safety and security mechanism, vehicles will often lock a plugged-in cable into place during a charge session in order to prevent forced unplugging. If the Hypervolt Home cable is not properly inserted into your vehicle, the locking mechanism in the vehicle's charging port might not lock onto the cable properly and therefore prevent any charge coming from the Hypervolt Home going into your vehicle.

If you think this might have happened to you, we advise that you unplug the cable from your vehicle and plug it back in again hold it in place until you hear the locking mechanism on your vehicle grab the charging cable.

What charging rate can your vehicle accept?

+

Most vehicles can accept an AC charge rate of up to 7.4kW using a single phase charger. Some older vehicles such as the first Nissan Leaf charge at a much slower rate however. This means that no matter what charge speed your charging point outputs, your vehicle will limit the speed to its max output.

You can check your vehicle's charge speed by finding it on the vehicle page section of our website (it will be listed under charging time). You should also be able to find your vehicle's max charge speed in its manual.

The light on the front LED bolt of the Hypervolt will reduce in size if the charger is charging at a slower rate than its max.

Check the vehicle's onboard charging settings

+

If you know that your vehicle can accept the max charge speed outputted by your Hypervolt but your vehicle is still charging at a slower rate then the next thing to check is if your vehicle isn't deliberately limiting the charge rate due to a setting.

Some vehicles have the ability to adjust the charge speed manually which when set will limit the charge rate that your Hypervolt outputs to your vehicle. We recommend that you check your vehicle's settings to make sure that the limiter is either off or set to the max output of your Hypervolt.

Is your vehicle's settings clashing with your charger app schedule?

+

If you are finding that your vehicle hasn't charged fully or at all after a charge schedule, it could be due to the vehicle itself. Some vehicles have built-in charge scheduling features which can interfere with the Hypervolt Home's own charge scheduling. Every vehicle is different, so we advise checking the manual that came with your vehicle if you are unsure how to turn off or modify its charge scheduling.

If you have done the above but are still having issues, please check using the Hypervolt app that you do not have any conflicting charge schedules.

Has the charger tripped at the consumer unit?

+

It's rare, but an EV charger may trip at the consumer unit if it detects a fault. This is a safety feature, but simply switching the car charger back on at the consumer unit should get you up and running again.

If it keeps recurring then check the specific troubleshooting issues further down the page.

Hardware reset the Hypervolt Home

+

It’s a cliché, but it genuinely can work. Sometimes the Hypervolt Home just needs a kick up the backside and the best way to do this is to reset it.

  1. Locate the dedicated circuit breaker (see photos below). This should be where your installer connected the charger’s cabling to your mains supply.

  2. Switch it off and leave for 10 seconds.

  3. Now switch back on again

Have you tried this?

+

Update the app

Most phones nowadays will automatically keep installed apps up to date, but it’s always good practice to make sure that it is.

To do this you’ll first need to go into the app store on the iPhone or the Google Play Store on Android. Navigate to your installed apps and you should see a list of which apps are up to date and which ones aren’t. If the Hypervolt app is showing that there’s an update available, tap “update”.

Hypervolt Home Advanced Troubleshooting

My Hypervolt Home is not charging my vehicle

+

If you've tried turning your charging point off and on again at the fuse board but your charging point is still not charging your vehicle, please check the LED status lights on the front and sides of the unit.

Pulsing Red: The charging point's safety system has been activated. If the Hypervolt is connected to the internet, the charger will automatically notify Hypervolt's support team, who will be able to remotely diagnose your issue. Further information will be displayed on your app.

Solid Orange which flashes when you plug your vehicle in: The Hypervolt is locked. To unlock it, simply tap the unlock button on the app.

The problem with my unit is not listed on here or the advice given has not solved my issue

If none of the advice above works then you might need to contact Hypervolt. You can do this by filling out a 'contact us' form or by calling them on: +44 (0)333 090 3093
