The Kia e-Niro has already proven the Korea-based manufacturer’s credentials in the electrified car arena. Having offered a fully electric vehicle, the firm is looking to electrify its existing line-up by offering a plug-in hybrid version of the Ceed.
The Kia Ceed Sportswagon PHEV combines low emissions driving and a targeted 37-mile pure electric range with practical boot space. The plug-in hybrid combines a 44.5kW electric motor with a 1.6-litre petrol engine to produce 139bhp and is due on sale in early 2020.
As well as utilising regenerative braking to recoup kinetic energy into the battery, making the car even more efficient, the Kia will also locate nearby available charging points so you should never need to drive around searching for one. This is made easier thanks to the 8” touchscreen included as standard, which also features sat nav, energy management information, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Ceed Sportswagon PHEV is also the most practical version in the Ceed range offering an impressive 437 litres of luggage space and up to 1,506 litres when the seats are folded down.
The Kia Ceed Sportswagon PHEV is due to go on sale in the UK in early 2020.
Charging at home
You can find full details of how long it takes to charge this vehicle from empty to full using a 7.4kW home charge point at the bottom of this page.
However, it's important to note that most electric car charging is done overnight when you're asleep (so you wake up to a charged vehicle) and it's very unlikely you will ever need to charge the battery from completely empty to completely full. So, in reality, most drivers will only need to "top up" their car's battery overnight - for example, from 50% to 80%.
We tested how often the average driver would need to charge each week using the Jaguar GO I-PACE app. See how we got on in this video.
