The premium SUV segment shows no signs of slowing down. Audi has doubled down on its electrification strategy – as well as launching pure-electric models such as the e-tron, it is also electrifying its existing line-up.
One of the first out the gates is the Q5 plug-in hybrid. Featuring 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine alongside a 105kW electric motor and all-wheel drive, the Q5 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) builds on an already successful model.
Like other PHEVs, the Q5 can be operated in three primary modes – EV mode, with up to 26 miles of pure-electric driving; Battery Hold, which will conserve the battery for later use; and Hybrid which automatically makes the best use of both the petrol engine and electric motor.
Depending on your driving lifestyle, the bulk of your travelling can be completed in pure-electric mode alone especially when you consider the battery only takes two hours to charge from empty to full using a dedicated 7.4kW home charge point.
The power is also ready when you need it in the Q5, sprinting from 0-62mph in just 5.3 seconds.
Charging at home
You can find full details of how long it takes to charge this vehicle from empty to full using a 7.4kW home charge point at the bottom of this page.
However, it's important to note that most electric car charging is done overnight when you're asleep (so you wake up to a charged vehicle) and it's very unlikely you will ever need to charge the battery from completely empty to completely full. So, in reality, most drivers will only need to "top up" their car's battery overnight - for example, from 50% to 80%.
We tested how often the average driver would need to charge each week using the Jaguar GO I-PACE app. See how we got on in this video.
