Audi is a leader in the “executive class” of cars – alongside BMW and Mercedes of course – so it’s no surprise to see it electrifying its saloon vehicles.
Plug-in hybrids offer an excellent balance for drivers who complete short-range commutes as well as regular long-distance journeys. The Audi A6 plug-in hybrid is no exception here, offering up to 32 miles of zero emissions, pure-electric driving.
This is plenty to cover most round-trip commutes and charging takes a mere two hours (empty to full) using a dedicated 7.4kW home charge point. The 249bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine then provides the flexibility and range needed for those longer journeys.
Handily, the MyAudi smartphone app will offer up sat-nav instructions based on public charger locations. This is a real bonus, leaving you to focus on simply getting to your destination without needing to manually search for nearby chargers.
Charging at home
You can find full details of how long it takes to charge this vehicle from empty to full using a 7.4kW home charge point at the bottom of this page.
However, it's important to note that most electric car charging is done overnight when you're asleep (so you wake up to a charged vehicle) and it's very unlikely you will ever need to charge the battery from completely empty to completely full. So, in reality, most drivers will only need to "top up" their car's battery overnight - for example, from 50% to 80%.
We tested how often the average driver would need to charge each week using the Jaguar GO I-PACE app. See how we got on in this video.
