Mercedes Benz EQS Charging Guide

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is a luxury electric saloon in the Mercedes-EQ range, designed for long-distance comfort, high refinement and strong electric range.
It uses a Type 2 connection for AC home and destination charging, and CCS for DC rapid charging. In the UK, the EQS 450+ is a key version to reference, with a large 118kWh usable battery, an 11kW onboard AC charger and rapid charging at up to around 200kW DC on a suitable public charger.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Charging Specifications

Model variant | Battery capacity | Charging port type | AC Home Charging / Destination Charging Speed | DC Rapid Charging Speed (Public Charging) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
118kWh usable | Type 2 / CCS | Up to 11kW AC | Up to approx 200kW DC |
Please note that specifications may vary slightly depending on model year and market specification.
Earlier and newer EQS models may have different battery sizes and charging capabilities, so always check the exact model year and trim.
Charging the Mercedes-Benz EQS at Home

Charging the EQS at home is straightforward with a dedicated wallbox, but its large battery means full charging times are longer than in smaller EVs. A typical UK 7.4kW home charger will charge the EQS 450+ from empty to full in around 19 hours, making regular overnight top-ups more practical than frequent full 0-100% charges.
A three-phase 11kW charger can reduce this to around 13 hours, although three-phase domestic supplies are less common in the UK. A standard three-pin plug can be used if necessary, but it is very slow and is best treated as an emergency or occasional charging option.
Charging Times at Home
Charger Power | Model Variant | Estimated Charge Time |
|---|---|---|
2.3kW (3-pin socket) | Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ | Approximately 60 hours |
7kW Home Charger | Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ | Approximately 19 hours |
11kW AC Charger | Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ | Approximately 13 hours |
Mercedes-Benz EQS Smart Charging Features

The EQS supports a wide range of connected charging features through Mercedes-Benz digital services. Depending on equipment and market specification, features may include remote charging management, scheduled charging, route planning with charging stops, battery preconditioning and Plug & Charge support on compatible networks.
Mercedes-Benz navigation with electric intelligence can help plan longer journeys by factoring in charge stops, estimated battery level on arrival and suitable public charging points along the route.
How Much Does It Cost to Charge a Mercedes-Benz EQS at Home?

Using a typical UK electricity tariff of 26.35p/kWh:
Model Variant | Estimated Charging Cost per Single Charge (0–100%) |
|---|---|
Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ | Approximately £31.09 |
This is based on a 118kWh usable battery multiplied by 26.35p/kWh. Actual cost will vary depending on tariff, charging losses and whether an off-peak EV tariff is used.
Public Charging for the Mercedes-Benz EQS

The EQS uses CCS for DC rapid charging, so it can use the majority of UK rapid and ultra-rapid public charging points. The EQS 450+ can rapid charge at up to around 200kW, with a 10-80% charge taking approximately 35 minutes on a sufficiently powerful charger.
Rapid charging is most useful on longer journeys, while AC destination charging is better suited to parking for several hours at hotels, workplaces, shopping centres or town-centre chargers.
Mercedes-Benz EQS Public Charging Times
Model Variant | Charger Type | Charging Speed |
|---|---|---|
Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ | 50kW DC Rapid Charger | 10–80% in approximately 100 minutes |
Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ | 150kW+ DC Rapid Charger | 10–80% in approximately 35 minutes |
