Volkswagen e-up! gets huge boost to range

The Volkswagen e-up! has had a refresh which sees its range nearly double from 83 miles to 159 miles (WLTP).
The small city car starts at £19,695 on the road making it one of the cheapest new electric cars available on the market.
The original e-up! went on sale in 2014 as Volkswagen’s first fully electric production car with a range of 83 miles. However, the updated model includes a larger 36.8kWh battery pack taking the range to 159 miles.
The car will also now benefit from the features as the rest of the range, such as improved assistance and safety equipment and other in-car tech.
The range-topping version includes heated front seats, a heated windscreen, climate control, rain sensing wipers and electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors.
Despite VW’s huge push into the electric market later this year with the debut of the ID.3 (the first of many ID cars and its first from-the-ground-up electric car), the e-up! will be the cheapest model in the brand’s electric range.
