DS adds new plug-in hybrid SUV to its range

Following on from the fully electric DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, the DS 7 promises a 34-mile electric range and up to 201mpg.
The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 225, to give it its full name, will combine a petrol engine with 180hp and a 110hp electric motor. When used together DS claims fuel consumption rate of up to 201.8mph (WLTP).
The 13.2kWh battery pack mounted under the floor offers enough power for 34 miles of electric only driving with speeds up to 84mph.
The three driving modes allows the driver to prioritise economy or power. Hybrid mode optimises energy use for all conditions, Sport mode uses battery and petrol power to provide maximum response, torque and speed, while E-Save mode will preserve the battery for later use.
The DS 7 225 plug-in hybrid also features regenerative braking to help recover energy into the battery when slowing down.
Charging time is around one hour and 45 minutes using a 7.4kW home charge point and, helpfully, the DS 7 comes with both a three-pin charging cable for use with a domestic socket and a 7.4kW Type 2 Charging cable for use with a dedicated home charger.
As standard the DS 7 includes intelligent suspension, windscreen camera, “attitude” sensors and accelerometers which analyse road conditions and transmit the data to a computer to control each wheel independently.
It also includes Level 2 autonomous driving assistance, as well as driver attention monitoring, night vision, and auto-park assist.
Pricing details are yet to be confirmed.
