OUR INSTALLATION PRICES ARE A GUIDE

The prices on our website for an EV charger installation are the minimum cost for any installation, but your final quote will depend on a number of factors including:

  1. Cable length - how much extra cable is required to connect your charger to the mains.
  2. Extra equipment - some installations require extra protective equipment such as a Type A RCBO and/or earth rod.
  3. Complexity - depending on the cable route and other factors, our in-house technicians will assess how much time and labour is required to complete the installation.

Every installation and quote is different, which is why we ask you to complete an Online Site Survey so we can give you an accurate and honest quote for your own home installation.

WHAT DO THE WEBSITE PRICES INCLUDE?

As mentioned above, the prices on the website are a rough guide only and you will need to complete an Online Site Survey to get an accurate quote for your home installation. The prices on the website include:

  1.  The charger (not including delivery)
  2.  Our Basic Installation Package - this is the minimum cost for any installation, but yours could be more.

HOW DO I START THE ONLINE SITE SURVEY AND GET A QUOTE?

  1. To get started, click "Request A Quote" on your preferred charger
  2. Fill in the short form.
  3. We will email and text you a link to your guided Online Site Survey
  4. Follow the instructions and take the photos requested
  5. Once we have all the details required, we will email you an honest and accurate quote.

Hardware

The Tesla Wall Connector is one of the most stylish EV charge points and offers unique features for Tesla vehicles such as the ability to open a Tesla's charging port via a button on the cable, but actually works as a convenient charging solution for all-electric cars.

Power output - 22kW*

+

The Wall connector can utilise a three-phase power supply meaning if you're property has it, you can charge an electric vehicle at a rate of up to 22kW which equates to around 60 miles of range per hour of charge.

Most UK households however use a single phase power supply which limits the Wall Connector to 7.4kW. For most people however, 7.4kW is more than enough as it still adds around 30 miles of charge which is plenty for most EV drivers, especially if you're charging overnight.

Be sure to check out our 22kW EV charging guide for more information.

Connectivity - WiFi

+

The third generation Tesla Wall Connector comes with Wi Fi connectivity so that it can not only receive over-the-air firmware updates but also allow non tesla owners to connect to it and set charge schedules via the Tesla app.

Cable Type - 7.3 metre (type 2)

+

The Tesla Wall Connector is a tethered charger meaning that the cable is permanently attached to the unit.

This means you won't need to supply your own cable in order to use it but please check that the 7.4 metre cable length is long enough to reach the charging connector of your car without dangling in the air before booking your installation.

The Wall connector's cable also features a button on the end which when pressed will open the charging point of a nearby Tesla vehicle, saving you the hassle of opening it via the app.

Warranty - 4 years

+

As standard, the Wall connector comes with a four year warrenty for residential use (i.e. Home charging)

Dimensions - H345mm x W155mm x D110mm

+

The third generation Tesla wall charger has seen huge improvements to the look, size and weight. It still leaves a visually striking impression, but goes about it with slightly more discretion.

Dimensions - H345mm x W155mm x D110mm

Weight - 6.8kg

Software

Benefit from the handy scheduling options in the Tesla charging app whether your vehicle is a Tesla or any other brand.

 Smart scheduling - Yes

+

Thanks to the ability to set charging schedules via the app, both Tesla and non-tesla electric vehicles can now charge when your energy tariff is at its cheapest.

Cost Tracking - Yes (Tesla vehicle owners only)

+

Find out how much you're spending on charging costs for your Tesla using the cost tracking feature on the Tesla app.

Unfortunately, this feature is currently only available for Tesla vehicle owners only.

Over the air firmware updates

+

Just like their vehicles, Tesla is constantly making software improvements to the Wall connector, which you'll automatically receive via firmware updates over WiFi.

Tesla Wall Connector FAQs

Can I use the Tesla Wall Connector with any electric vehicle?

+

Yes, the Tesla Wall Connector can charge non-tesla electric vehicles.

As of writing however, the Tesla app for non-tesla vehicles is still in its beta phase for home charging.

Do I need the Tesla Wall Connector to charge my Tesla?

+

No, Tesla feature a type 2 connector which is the universal cable type for almost all plug-in cars in the UK and Europe.

This means that while the Wall Connector is built with Tesla vehicles in mind, you can use any home charger with your Tesla including our other charge points such as the Easee One, Ohme Home Pro and Andersen A2 to name a few.

Does the Tesla Wall Connector charge at 22kW?

+

Yes, the Tesla Wall Connector is 22kW capable out of the box.

Whether your vehicle charges at this rate depends on two factors - what rate of charge your vehicle can accept and your property's electricity supply.

The Tesla Model 3, for example, has a limit of 11kW while some versions of the Model S and X go up to 17kW - this can also vary between model years too.

You will also need a three-phase supply at your property to facilitate up to 22kW charging.

Most UK residential properties do not have this, which will likely mean your vehicle will be limited to a 7.4kW charging rate due to your property's supply.

Is the Tesla Wall Connector "weather-proof"?

+

The Tesla Wall Connector is designed for use outside and has a IP55 rating for water ingress, so it should operate just fine in the UK weather.

How do I connect the Wall Connector to my Tesla app?

+

The Tesla Wall Connector will emit a WiFi signal after being powered on.

This will enable you to connect it to your phone and then your home WiFi.

If you're getting an installation with Smart Home Charge then our engineer will complete this initial setup for you.

But if you need to go through this process post-installation then you can follow the steps on our Tesla Wall Connector product support page.

How to charge a Tesla? How do I set a charging schedule with the Tesla Wall Connector?

+

Log into your Tesla app, tap 'My Home", go into settings and then vehicle charging.

There you will be able to turn on scheduling which will then prompt you to enter a start and end time that you want your charging session to take place.

As of writing, non-Tesla owners using the app can only set one charge schedule at a time.

Is the Tesla Wall Connector available in different colours?

+

As standard, the wall connector only comes with a white front.

You can however buy different coloured faceplates for £95 each on the Tesla website.

Can I buy the Tesla Wall Connector with a longer cable length?

+

The Tesla Wall Connector is available with a 7.3-metre cable length only.

Does the Tesla Wall Connector require an earth rod?

+

Yes, though this depends on your property which we will assess at the remote site survey stage.

UK Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS 7671) mean that electric car charge points installed outdoors on a PME (TN-C-S) earthing system, should have an earth rod or alternative suitable device.

In most cases, we will install a suitable alternative protective device to avoid the need for an earth rod which can be unsightly.

The cost of this device will be added to your installation quote.

Is there a set-up and troubleshooting guide for the Tesla Wall Connector?

+

Is the Tesla Wall Connector cyber regulations compliant?

+

Yes, you can check the statement of compliance for more details.

How much does it cost to install a Tesla charger?

+

The starting price for a Tesla home charger installation can be found at the top of this page, but if you want a bespoke quote then simply click "Request a Quote" and complete our short form.

Most of our customers are eligible for an Instant Quote too, so you'll have an accurate charger installation quote within minutes of submitting your enquiry.

Can I charge vehicles with the Wall Connector using my solar panels?

+

No, unfortunately, the Wall Connector does not currently support solar charging.

For more information on solar charging and to see our favourite solar compatible chargers be sure to check out our charging your electric vehicle with solar article.

Can I install the Tesla Wall Connector myself?

+

Absolutely Not!

Unless you are a fully qualified electrician, we strongly advise against carrying out any electrical work yet alone installing a home charger by yourself.

For more information on what to look for when choosing a home charge point installer, be sure to check out our guide on the topic.

Can I connect multiple wall connectors to one circle

+

While it is possible to connect multiple wall connectors to one circuit via power sharing, we do not offer this service as the feature is intended for commercial use rather than domestic.

Is there a warranty for the Tesla Wall Connector

+

Tesla provides a four year warranty as standard on the Wall Connector when using it for residential purposes (i.e. Home charging).

Smart Home Charge also provides a one-year installation warranty.

Installation FAQs

Will my property need works or upgrades to the electricity supply before installation of an EV charge point?

+

Will my property need works or upgrades to the electricity supply before installation of an EV charge point?

Many customers will not need any upgrades to their electricity supply before having an EV charger installed.

All installers are however required to notify the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) of any EV charger installations, who will advise you and us if an upgrade to your property’s main fuse is necessary.

This depends on your property’s “maximum demand” estimate, (which is submitted by our in-house technicians to your DNO as part of our process), the size of the main fuse or if your property is on a looped supply (connected to your neighbour).

Any potential works will be handled by your DNO and they will contact you directly if this is the case.

How do I get a quote for my EV charger installation?

+

If you have an electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid, or have one on order, then you are ready to get a charger installation quote.

Simply choose the electric car charger you like the look of and select "Request a Quote" at the top of this page.

Don't worry if you're not 100% sure on the charger - there will be time to swap this before payment if your change your mind.

Why isn’t my quote the same as the price on the website?

+

Every installation is unique, which is why we ask you to complete our remote Online Site Survey.

We need to properly assess the work involved in order to give you an accurate and honest quote.

Our website prices are meant to be a guide and show the minimum cost for an installation of each particular charger.

So, that means the quote we email to you may be different to the price on the website.

How long will it be until my EV charger is installed?

+

Typically this is one to four weeks after payment.

The main factors that affect your installation date are your remote site survey completion time and whether your DNO needs to complete any upgrades to your electricity supply before we install your charger.

We keep you updated at each stage of the process, but you can help keep things moving by completing your remote site survey quickly.

My car isn’t listed on your website. Does that mean I can’t get a charger installation from Smart Home Charge?

+

You can still get an installation from us even if you can’t find your vehicle on our website.

Simply “Request a Quote” for the charger you like and tell us which vehicle you have in the quote form.

Our EV database is updated regularly but are not meant to be a definitive guide – there are simply too many new EVs and plug-in hybrids being launched for us to keep up!

Do you install EV charge points in my area?

+

Smart Home Charge is a nationwide installer, covering England, Scotland and Wales.

We have experienced engineers covering all major cities and regions. Find out if we install EV chargers in your area with our location checker.

Will you set up my charge point app?

+

Yes. Our engineers will complete the initial setup and pairing of the charger app with the charge point itself as this is considered as part of the installation.

However, the engineers are not required to demonstrate how the app works or set up any schedules for you.

Visit our EV charger support section for useful tips and troubleshooting.

Will you process my OZEV Grant claim?

+

As OZEV-approved installers, we are able to help you apply for the EV Chargepoint Grants supplied by the Government landlords, renters, workplace and more.

Our team will assess your eligibility for the grant and work with you to supply the right evidence to the Government in order to claim the grant.

Your installation will not be booked until we have all the required documentation to submit your claim to the Government.

However, as an installer Smart Home Charge does not approve or reject your claim and a successful charger installation does not mean your claim was approved.

It can take up to three months post installation for confirmation of approval or rejection of your claim from the Government.

Overall very good experience, mainly because of the installer. It was a bit hard arranging the installation with SHC but once it got sorted everything went smoothly. The installer came on t...ime, discussed the options with me and then did the installation to a very high standard while respecting my property. Had a quick run through on the app as well after installation, charger is working as intended.
