OUR INSTALLATION PRICES ARE A GUIDE

The prices on our website for an EV charger installation are the minimum cost for any installation, but your final quote will depend on a number of factors including:

  1. Cable length - how much extra cable is required to connect your charger to the mains.
  2. Extra equipment - some installations require extra protective equipment such as a Type A RCBO and/or earth rod.
  3. Complexity - depending on the cable route and other factors, our in-house technicians will assess how much time and labour is required to complete the installation.

Every installation and quote is different, which is why we ask you to complete an Online Site Survey so we can give you an accurate and honest quote for your own home installation.

WHAT DO THE WEBSITE PRICES INCLUDE?

As mentioned above, the prices on the website are a rough guide only and you will need to complete an Online Site Survey to get an accurate quote for your home installation. The prices on the website include:

  1.  The charger (not including delivery)
  2.  Our Basic Installation Package - this is the minimum cost for any installation, but yours could be more.

HOW DO I START THE ONLINE SITE SURVEY AND GET A QUOTE?

  1. To get started, click "Request A Quote" on your preferred charger
  2. Fill in the short form.
  3. We will email and text you a link to your guided Online Site Survey
  4. Follow the instructions and take the photos requested
  5. Once we have all the details required, we will email you an honest and accurate quote.

With over 100 different colour combinations to choose from (all of which are of incredible build quality), the Simpson partners home 7 is a highly customisable mid-sized charge point. Thanks to a cable locking feature, the untethered Home 7kW can transform into a tethered charger via the tethered mode function for times when you want the cable readily available.

Power Output - Up to 22kW

+

Choose between 7kW single phase or 22kW three-phase* power outputs when customising your home 7.

*Please note that most UK domestic properties have a single phase supply and will need to be upgraded to a three phase power supply before a home charger can charge higher than 7.4kW.

For more information on 22kW three-phase charging, be sure to read out guide.

Connectivity - WiFi and Bluetooth

+

The Home 7kW uses WiFi to receive over-the-air updates and allow drivers control over functions such as charge scheduling.

What's more, the Home 7kW can connect to your smart device using bluetooth for times when WiFi might be temporarily unavailable.

Universal Socket

+

(Untethered version only) Can't decide if you want a tethered or untethered charging point? The Home 7kW works as both! With a simple tap of the tethered mode function on the app, the Home 7kW will lock onto an inserted cable turning it into a tethered unit (Charging cable sold separately).

Built-in earthing protection

+

Thanks to a technology called O-PEN fault detection, the Home 7 does not require a the installation of a costly earth rod at your property.

+

Coming as a tethered or untethered unit, the Home 7 is a mid sized charger that comes with a choice of 13 front colours including Cotswold green, dark champagne and bronze making it one of the most customisable chargers on the market.

You can even choose between a variety of wood or metal tops.

Solar Compatibility - Yes (Requires energy manager)

+

Install the Solar Monitor alongside your Home 7kW Plus or Home 22kW plus to send surplus solar energy from your solar panels straight to your electric vehicle effectively charging it for free.

Once the solar monitor is installed, choose between three solar charging modes:

  • Eco: Only charges if there's a solar surplus above 1.4kW, if not it stops charging.

  • Eco Max: Pulls energy from the grid if your solar surplus falls below 1.4kW to bump it to just above the threshold (1.4kW).

  • Max: Uses a combination of solar surplus and grid energy to charge your electric vehicle at the max possible rate.

If you would like to find out if a solar home charging solution is right for you, be sure to check out our charging your electric vehicle with solar panels article.

This feature is not compatible with the Home 7kW Basic.

Simpson & Partners Home 7 FAQ

Can I order a 22kW version of the Home 7?

+

Yes! The Simpson partners home 7 can be brought as a three phase charger (called the Home 22kW Plus).

Please keep in mind however that you will need a three phase power supply at your property before you can charge at three phase speeds.

Is the Home 7 "weatherproof"

+

Yes. The Home 7kW has an IP rating of 54, meaning that the charge point is protected against dust as well as water splashes (rain) from all directions.

The durable metal front is also built to be rust resistant.

Can I get the Home 7 in different colours?

+

Yes, the Simpson Partners Home 7 comes in a choice of 14 different fronts and eight different colour lids which are either accoya wood or metal.

View them for yourself by clicking "build your home 7" at the top of this page.

Is the Home 7 compatible with Type 1 charging cables?

+

The Home 7 untethered uses a universal socket meaning that both Type 1 and Type 2 cables can be used, so all electric vehicles are supported.

The tethered version of the Home 7 EV charger however only comes with a type 2 cable.

Can I get a longer cable for the Home 7?

+

The Simpson Partners Home 7 untethered does not come with a cable out of the box, however, you can order an extra long 10m cable from our cable shop.

The tethered Home 7 however comes with a choice of 6.8m or 9.6m cable lengths.

What does the energy manager do and what's the difference between the wired and wireless versions?

+

The energy manager allows the home 7 charger to monitor the energy usage of your home and adjust its charging rate so as to prevent your power supply from tripping.

This feature is known as load management or load balancing.

You will also need an energy manager if you want to have the solar monitor installed alongside your EV charging point.

The wired energy manager requires an extra cable feeding from your home charger to your power supply, which might look unsightly if they are both a long way from each other.

The wireless energy manager however does the same job as the wired energy manager but wirelessly using a radio signal.

If your home EV charging point is less than 10 metres away from your property's power supply, then we recommend going with the wired energy manager as it's cheaper and easier to hide the cable route.

Is the simpson partners home series solar compatible?

+

Yes but only if you opt for the home 7 plus or home 22kW plus, and add the wireless energy manager and solar monitor to your install on the "build your home 7" screen.

Can I have the solar monitor installed after my home series charger installation?

+

Yes, you can.

Please be aware however that only the home 7kW plus or home 22kW Plus are compatible with the energy manager and solar energy monitor.

Does the Home 7 come with a warranty?

+

Yes, as standard, all simpson partners home ev chargers comes with a 3-year manufacturer's warranty.

Smart Home Charge also provides a one-year installation warranty.

I am not sold on the Simpson and Partners Home 7. What home EV chargers a good alternatives?

+

The Easee One offers a more sleek and subtle design to the Home series charger whilst also featuring the ability to switch between being a tethered and untethered unit.

If smart software is what you are after with your home EV charger, then we reccomend taking a look at the Home Pro or ePod, both of which come installed with Ohme's class-leading software.

Where can I find a cyber regulations certificate of compliance for the Simpson and Partners Home 7?

+

Simpson and Partners has issued a statement of compliance for the Home 7, which can be found here.

Installation FAQs

Will my property need works or upgrades to the electricity supply before installation of an EV charge point?

+

Many customers will not need any upgrades to their electricity supply before having an EV charger installed. All installers are however required to notify the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) of any EV charger installations, who will advise you and us if an upgrade to your property’s main fuse is necessary. This depends on your property’s “maximum demand” estimate, (which is submitted by our in-house technicians to your DNO as part of our process), the size of the main fuse or if your property is on a looped supply (connected to your neighbour). Any potential works will be handled by your DNO and they will contact you directly if this is the case.

How do I get a quote for my EV charger installation?

+

If you have an EV or plug-in hybrid, or have one on order, then you are ready to get a charger installation quote. Simply choose the electric car charger you like the look of and select "Request a Quote" at the top of this page. Don't worry if you're not 100% sure on the charger - there will be time to swap this before payment if your change your mind.

Why isn’t my quote the same as the price on the website?

+

Every installation is unique, which is why we ask you to complete our remote Online Site Survey. We need to properly assess the work involved in order to give you an accurate and honest quote. Our website prices are meant to be a guide and show the minimum cost for an installation of each particular charger. So, that means the quote we email to you may be different to the price on the website.

How long will it be until my EV charger is installed?

+

Typically this is one to four weeks after payment. The main factors that affect your installation date are your remote site survey completion time and whether your DNO needs to complete any upgrades to your electricity supply before we install your charger. We keep you updated at each stage of the process, but you can help keep things moving by completing your remote site survey quickly.

My car isn’t listed on your website. Does that mean I can’t get a charger installation from Smart Home Charge?

+

You can still get an installation from us even if you can’t find your vehicle on our website. Simply “Request a Quote” for the charger you like and tell us which vehicle you have in the quote form. Our EV database is updated regularly but are not meant to be a definitive guide – there are simply too many new EVs and plug-in hybrids being launched for us to keep up!

Do you install EV charge points in my area?

+

Smart Home Charge is a nationwide installer, covering England, Scotland and Wales. We have experienced engineers covering all major cities and regions. Find out if we install EV chargers in your area with our location checker.

Will you set up my charge point app?

+

Yes. Our engineers will complete the initial setup and pairing of the charger app with the charge point itself as this is considered as part of the installation. However, the engineers are not required to demonstrate how the app works or set up any schedules for you. Visit our EV charger support section for useful tips and troubleshooting.

Will you process my OZEV Grant claim?

+

As OZEV-approved installers, we are able to help you apply for the EV Chargepoint Grants supplied by the Government landlords, renters, workplace and more. Our team will assess your eligibility for the grant and work with you to supply the right evidence to the Government in order to claim the grant. Your installation will not be booked until we have all the required documentation to submit your claim to the Government.

However, as an installer Smart Home Charge does not approve or reject your claim and a successful charger installation does not mean your claim was approved. It can take up to three months post installation for confirmation of approval or rejection of your claim from the Government.

Arrived on time and did a nice fitment. Had some delays and issues initially arranging fitment appointment (delay setting it in first place and first subcontractor failed to contact us at a...ll). Had to change fitter. But office sorted it out and all went to plan today.

Our installation was excellent and Charlie was 5/5 for everything. My only slight concern was after I paid I was told 8th January to install , however a few weeks later I was then told 30th... January. The new EV hasn’t arrived so no drama but you may want to tighten up on your initial comms regarding dates. Otherwise a positive experience with lots of aspects excellent.
