FAQs
What is OVO Charge Anytime?
OVO Charge Anytime is an add-on that OVO Energy customers can apply to their existing energy tariff. This add-on offers you a lower price when you charge your electric vehicle and is applicable at any time of day.
This contrasts with most other EV friendly electricity tariffs, which typically offer their cheaper rates overnight only.
How does OVO Charge Anytime work?
OVO Charge Anytime pricing only applied to your electric vehicle. Within the EV charging app, you set the target battery percentage you want to reach and the time you wish to reach it by. For example, 80% charge by 7am and OVO will do the rest.
In return for the cheaper price when charging your car, you give OVO permission to decide the exact times your vehicle is charged. This could be in the daytime, evening, or overnight - but it will always reach the target and deadline you set in the app.
Initially, all electricity you use (including EV charging sessions) is charged at the standard rate - depending on which OVO electricity tariff you are on, this price will vary. At the end of the month, OVO calculates the energy used for smart charging your EV and essentially reimburses you the difference. This credit appears in your OVO account and on your statement as "Charge Anytime credits."
Why do I need a compatible EV charger or vehicle to use OVO Charge Anytime?
OVO Energy needs to communicate with either your charge point or EV to set and initiate the smart charging schedules.
Unfortunately, not all car manufacturers and charge point makers allow external companies to control functions like charging schedules.
Can I get the OVO Charge Anytime add-on if I have solar panels?
Yes, but the only charger compatible with both OVO Charge Anytime and your solar array is the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro.
How do I switch to OVO Charge Anytime?
Since Charge Anytime is an add-on, you must first be an OVO Energy customer. Once you’ve switched to OVO Energy, it may take around 4-6 weeks for OVO to fully set up your account. After this, you can add the Charge Anytime tariff to your energy tariff.
How much can I save by using OVO Charge Anytime?
Use our "Cost to Charge" tool to get a detailed breakdown of how much your EV charging sessions would cost with Charge Anytime.
Which EV charging point should I choose for OVO Charge Anytime?
If you have a compatible vehicle, then you can select any smart EV charger as the vehicle will integrate directly with OVO allowing you freedom to choose whatever you'd like.
However, if your vehicle is not compatible then you'll need an OVO Charge Anytime compatible charge point to access this OVO Energy add-on.
The easiest way to find out if your vehicle is compatible or not is to use our Cost to Charge EV tariff comparison tool. It will tell you if your vehicle is compatible with OVO Charge Anytime or not.
