OUR INSTALLATION PRICES ARE A GUIDE

The prices on our website for an EV charger installation are the minimum cost for any installation, but your final quote will depend on a number of factors including:

  1. Cable length - how much extra cable is required to connect your charger to the mains.
  2. Extra equipment - some installations require extra protective equipment such as a Type A RCBO and/or earth rod.
  3. Complexity - depending on the cable route and other factors, our in-house technicians will assess how much time and labour is required to complete the installation.

Every installation and quote is different, which is why we ask you to complete an Online Site Survey so we can give you an accurate and honest quote for your own home installation.

WHAT DO THE WEBSITE PRICES INCLUDE?

As mentioned above, the prices on the website are a rough guide only and you will need to complete an Online Site Survey to get an accurate quote for your home installation. The prices on the website include:

  1.  The charger (not including delivery)
  2.  Our Basic Installation Package - this is the minimum cost for any installation, but yours could be more.

HOW DO I START THE ONLINE SITE SURVEY AND GET A QUOTE?

  1. To get started, click "Request A Quote" on your preferred charger
  2. Fill in the short form.
  3. We will email and text you a link to your guided Online Site Survey
  4. Follow the instructions and take the photos requested
  5. Once we have all the details required, we will email you an honest and accurate quote.

Hardware

This Ohme EV charger adds a raft of key features, including the ability to control your EV charging from the unit itself using the built-in interactive LCD screen.

Power output - 7.4kW

+

The Ohme Home Pro Charger is capable of charging your vehicle at 7.4kW, which works out around 30 miles of range each hour depending on your vehicle.

Connectivity - 4G

+

The Home Pro EV charger uses a built-in 3G/4G mobile signal to connect to the Ohme data centre. This can be much more reliable than the WiFi connections of other EV chargers, especially if your charger will be located relatively far away from your home WiFi router. The data use is also free.

Cable type - 5-8 metre (type 2)

+

The Ohme home pro features a tethered cable, which means the charging cable is perminately attached to the unit. The integrated cable is 5 metres however, you can purchase an 8 metre cable length version at an extra cost.

LCD screen controls

+

The Ohme Home Pro adds a new colour LCD screen allowing you to control your car charging directly from the main unit as well as from the comfort of the app.

Built-in earthing protection

+

The Ohme Home Pro features an in-built PEN fault device, which avoids the need for an earth rod installation at your property. That means it helps save time and cost on the installation compared to the standard Ohme Home which requires an earth rod at additional cost.

Warranty - 3 years

+

The Ohme Home Pro comes with a three year warranty so you can be rest-assured that Ohme's got you covered in the event of something going wrong.

Dimensions - H170 x W200 x D100mm

+

The Ohme Home Pro is designed from the ground up to be a real looker, thanks to its compact size and smart screen. In some dimensions it is slightly larger than the standard Ohme Home, but a much better shape, plus it packs in more hardware too.

Dimensions - H170 x W200 x D100mm
Weight - 4kg

Software

Ohme's smart charging app is one of the most advanced charging apps on the market. Not only can it automatically charge your car at times when your energy tariff is at its cheapest but when it's using the greenest of energy too.

Smart Scheduling - Yes

+

Ohme's smart home charging software automatically charges a plugged-in EV during your energy tariff's off peak hours, ensuring that you're only charging when your tariff is at its cheapest. All you need to do is tell Ohme who your energy provider is and what tariff you are on.

You can even set a max price cap so that the Ohme EV charger only charges your vehicle during your energy tariff's cheapest times.

You can also set a charge target percentage, which the Ohme will try to charge your car to during your tariff's off-peak rate.*

*Depending on the make and model of your car, the Ohme charger will be able to automatically read the vehicle's battery percentage. Please check to the API list located in the FAQ section to see if your vehicle works with with this feature.

Cost tracking - Yes

+

See your past EV charging sessions with details on start and stop time, energy delivered, and estimated cost of charging your electric car.

Intelligent Octopus Compatible

+

Enjoy Intelligent Octopus' super cheap off-peak electricity rate of 7.5p per kWh, even if your electric vehicle is not on Octopus' compatibility list when you choose an Ohme EV charger.

Find out more about Intelligent Octopus in our review.

OVO Drive Anytime Compatible

+

Enjoy 7p per kWh charging day or night with OVO Drive Anytime thanks to Ohme's ability to connect to the tariff's software directly without the need for a compatible electric vehicle.

Ohme Home Pro FAQs

Is my vehicle on Ohme's API list?

+

Please note that some features found on the Ohme Home Pro (including the ability to read a plugged vehicle's battery percentage) are only available to vehicles made by manufacturers that share their API (Application Programming Interface) information.

Those manufacturers are:

  • BMW

  • Hyundai

  • Jaguar

  • Land Rover

  • Kia

  • Nissan

  • Renault

  • Tesla

  • MINI

Can I use an cable extender with the Ohme Home Pro?

+

No, the Ohme Home Pro is not compatible with any EV cable extender.

You can however purchase the Ohme Home Pro with a longer 8m cable for an additional charge.

Alternatively, you could opt also for an untethered charger, such as the Ohme ePod and use a 10 metre cable (or however long of a cable you need) instead

Can I get a Type 1 version of the Ohme Home Pro?

+

No, the Ohme Home Pro is only available for Type 2 vehicles.

If you have an electric vehicle with a type 1 connector, we recommend choosing an untethered unit like the Ohme ePod or Easee One due to their compatibility with both type 1 and type 2 cables.

If you would like to know more about the pros and cons of tethered and untethered chargers, be sure to check out our article on the subject.

Can I get the Ohme Home Pro with a longer cable?

+

Yes. The Ohme Home Pro Charger comes with a five-metre cable as standard with the option to purchase an eight metre cable version at an extra cost. If you're not sure five or eight metres is long enough to reach your vehicle from where the charger will be, take a look at our guide to EV charge point location.

Is the Ohme Home Pro available in different colours?

+

No, the Ohme Home Pro Charger is only available in black currently.

Is there a 22kW version of the Ohme Home Pro Charger?

+

No, the Ohme Home Pro is only available as a 7.4kW unit. Most UK residential properties cannot make use of a 22kW charger anyway and 7.4kW is more than enough for the majority of EV drivers. Find out why in our guide to 22kW three-phase charging.

Is the Ohme Home Pro Charger "weather-proof"?

+

The Ohme Home Pro is rated at IP54 for water ingress and is designed to work outside in all weathers.

I have a poor mobile phone signal where I live. Can I still use the Ohme Home Pro?

+

The Ohme Home Pro has its own SIM card to connect to the UK's mobile data network. It doesn't connect directly to your mobile, but your phone is a good indicator as to whether the Ohme will function correctly in your area.

The Ohme uses 3G and 4G across a variety of networks, so it works well in most areas in the UK but it is worth checking what your mobile phone signal is like in the exact location you want the charger. If it's not particularly strong, you may be better off with a charge point that connects to your home WiFi (assuming that is within range).

My vehicle isn't compatible - can I still use the Ohme charger?

+

If you've checked the vehicle API list further up this page and found your vehicle is not listed, then you can still use the Ohme for charging, but some of the smart features and charging options will be limited.

The main difference is the Ohme charger "knows" how much percentage charge an API-compatible vehicle has. This means if you want 80% charge for example, and you return home that day with 30%, the Ohme will automatically add 50% charge. If the next day you return home with 40%, it knows to add 40% and so on.

A vehicle without API compatibility means the Ohme cannot do this and you'll instead have to create a schedule to add the percentage you want. This is very simple if you regularly return home with a similar amount of charge left and your target is the same most days - simply set up a schedule to add the percentage you want to add each day, such as 50%.

The difficulty is if the percentage charge you arrive home with changes - for example, 30% one day, 40% another, or 50% on another day. If you have a schedule set up to add 50% each time, the Ohme will add 50% charge regardless of the percentage you started off with.

Example Day 1: Arrive Home with 30% charge. Ohme adds 50% = 80% charge
Example Day 2: Arrive Home with 40% charge. Ohme adds 50% = 90% charge
Example Day 3: Arrive Home with 50% charge. Ohme adds 50% = 100% charge

The only way around this is to change your schedule manually each time. So if you arrive home with 40% charge and only want 80% the next day, you'll need to adjust your schedule to add 40% instead of 50%.

In short, the Ohme still charges non-API compatible vehicles, but the scheduling is more manual because Ohme's automatic charging features will not work in the same way as a vehicle that is API compatible.

Is there a set-up and troubleshooting guide for the Ohme Home Pro Charger?

+

How do I pair the Ohme Home Pro charger with the Ohme app?

+

Our engineers will complete the initial app setup on the day of installation. However, if you need to re-add your Ohme Home Pro charger to the accompanying app post-install then you can follow the instructions on our Ohme Home Pro product support page.

Should I get the Ohme Home Pro or the Ohme ePod?

+

If you want a cable permanently attached to your charge point, or a screen with buttons to directly amend charge schedules from the charger itself, then the Ohme Home Pro is the one to go for.

If you'd prefer flexibility with cable length and a more compact-looking charge point, the ePod is the better bet.

We go into more details on Ohme Home Pro vs Ohme ePod in our Ohme ePod charger review.

Are there other EV chargers I should consider?

+

The Ohme is quite unique in the way it automatically handles smart charging (for API compatible vehicles anyway).

But all our other smart EV chargers still offer smart charging as well as other compelling features.

For a similar price, we recommend:

How much does it cost to charge an electric car with the Ohme Home Pro?

+

While the Ohme app has some great cost-saving features, the cost to charge your EV ultimately boils down to which electricity tariff you have at home.

Switching to an EV friendly energy tariff can save you hundreds of pounds per year on your EV charging. This is because they offer a cheaper price at off-peak times, which is typically overnight.

Find out which electricity tariff could save you the most on car charging costs with our handy EV tariff comparison tool.

How long does it take to charge an electric car with the Ohme Home Pro?

+

There are a few factors to consider here, such as how empty your EV battery is, the max charge rate of your vehicle, and the charging output of the charge point.

The Ohme Home Pro is capable of charging at 7.4kW, which will add approximately 30 miles of range per hour on average, though this isn't guaranteed.

You can find out the potential charging times at home and on the road for your vehicle using our EV database, where you'll find a handy charging times table.

Where can I find a cyber regulations certificate of compliance for the Ohme Home Pro?

+

Ohme has issued a statement of compliance for the Home Pro, which can be found here.

Ohme Home Pro solar - does it do it?

+

Unfortunately, the Ohme charger does not currently offer any solar integration.

What is the warranty on the Ohme Home Pro Charger?

+

There is a 3-year warranty on the product supplied by Ohme. Any issues under warranty should be dealt with directly by Ohme.

Smart Home Charge also provides a one-year installation warranty.

Installation FAQs

Will my property need works or upgrades to the electricity supply before installation of an EV charge point?

+

Many customers will not need any upgrades to their electricity supply before having an EV charger installed. All installers are however required to notify the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) of any EV charger installations, who will advise you and us if an upgrade to your property’s main fuse is necessary. This depends on your property’s “maximum demand” estimate, (which is submitted by our in-house technicians to your DNO as part of our process), the size of the main fuse or if your property is on a looped supply (connected to your neighbour). Any potential works will be handled by your DNO and they will contact you directly if this is the case.

How do I get a quote for my EV charger installation?

+

If you have an EV or plug-in hybrid, or have one on order, then you are ready to get a charger installation quote. Simply choose the electric car charger you like the look of and select "Request a Quote" at the top of this page. Don't worry if you're not 100% sure on the charger - there will be time to swap this before payment if your change your mind.

Why isn’t my quote the same as the price on the website?

+

Every installation is unique, which is why we ask you to complete our remote Online Site Survey. We need to properly assess the work involved in order to give you an accurate and honest quote. Our website prices are meant to be a guide and show the minimum cost for an installation of each particular charger. So, that means the quote we email to you may be different to the price on the website.

How long will it be until my EV charger is installed?

+

Typically this is one to four weeks after payment. The main factors that affect your installation date are your remote site survey completion time and whether your DNO needs to complete any upgrades to your electricity supply before we install your charger. We keep you updated at each stage of the process, but you can help keep things moving by completing your remote site survey quickly.

My car isn’t listed on your website. Does that mean I can’t get a charger installation from Smart Home Charge?

+

You can still get an installation from us even if you can’t find your vehicle on our website. Simply “Request a Quote” for the charger you like and tell us which vehicle you have in the quote form. Our EV database is updated regularly but are not meant to be a definitive guide – there are simply too many new EVs and plug-in hybrids being launched for us to keep up!

Do you install EV charge points in my area?

+

Smart Home Charge is a nationwide installer, covering England, Scotland and Wales. We have experienced engineers covering all major cities and regions. Find out if we install EV chargers in your area with our location checker.

Will you set up my charge point app?

+

Yes. Our engineers will complete the initial setup and pairing of the charger app with the charge point itself as this is considered as part of the installation. However, the engineers are not required to demonstrate how the app works or set up any schedules for you. Visit our EV charger support section for useful tips and troubleshooting.

Will you process my OZEV Grant claim?

+

As OZEV-approved installers, we are able to help you apply for the EV Chargepoint Grants supplied by the Government landlords, renters, workplace and more. Our team will assess your eligibility for the grant and work with you to supply the right evidence to the Government in order to claim the grant. Your installation will not be booked until we have all the required documentation to submit your claim to the Government.

However, as an installer Smart Home Charge does not approve or reject your claim and a successful charger installation does not mean your claim was approved. It can take up to three months post installation for confirmation of approval or rejection of your claim from the Government.
