OUR WEBSITE PRICES ARE A GUIDE

The prices on our website are based on the simplest installation and represent the minimum cost for any installation, but your final quote will depend on a number of factors including:

  3. Complexity - depending on the cable route, labour costs and other factors.

We provide an Instant Quote service, which means you get an accurate quote based on the information you provide us just moments after you complete our enquiry form. All without the need for a physical or remote site survey!

Hardware

Get all of Ohme's intelligent software in a compact and untethered package. You can even control certain functions of the charger using the buttons on the front, which can be turned off to prevent any unwanted tampering of your EV charging sessions.

 Power output - 7.4kW

+

The Ohme ePod has a max power output of 7.4kW, which works out to be around 30 miles of range per hour of charge depending on your electric vehicle.

Connectivity - 4G

+

Like its tethered counterpart, the Ohme Home Pro, the Ohme ePod uses a 3g 4g mobile signal

Solar Compatibility - Yes

+

New Ohme ePods come with a CT clamp meaning that it can divert any excess energy generated from your solar panels and use it to charge your car, as long as the correct conditions are met.

You can learn more how it works on the Ohme solar charging page.

Universal Socket

+

The ePod is Ohme's first untethered charger meaning that you'll need to have your own cable handy before you can use it.

The benefit of this however is that you can use both type one and type two cables with the ePod, meaning that you'll still be able to charge older electric vehicles that use a type one connector.

Plus, you'll have the benefit of being able to choose your own cable length.

We sell 5-metre and 10-metre cables, which you can purchase separately or at the checkout when purchasing your ePod.

Built-in earthing protection

+

Included with the Ohme ePod is a built-in O-PEN fault device, which avoids the need for an earth rod installation at your property. Saving both time and cost during installation.

Warranty - 3 years

+

As standard, the Ohme ePod comes with a three year warranty, so you can be rest-assured that Ohme's got you covered in the unlikely senario of something going wrong with your EV charger.

Added security - Approve individual charge sessions

+

Although electricity theft through your charger is rare, the Ohme allows you approve every charge session for added security.

Dynamic load balancing

+

The Ohme ePod comes pre-wired for dynamic load balancing, which means it will monitor the electrical demand on your property and adjust its own power output to protect the main fuse.

Though many homes do not require this, it's useful to know you can utilise this feature in the future if needed.

Dimensions - H230 x W140 x D100

+

Designed to be compact and unassuming, the Ohme ePod has a universal socket on the front with three touch sensitive buttons above, which control various functions of the EV charger.

Dimensions - H230 x W140 x D100

Weight - 1.9kg

Software

Automatically take advantage of off-peak charging, set a max price cap and get valuable insights into your charging session such as how green your charge was, all through Ohme's intelligent software built into their smartphone app.

 Smart Scheduling - Yes

+

Tell the Ohme app which energy tariff you're on and Ohme will automatically find your energy rate costs saving you having the hassle of finding an old energy bill and entering them yourself.

Once Ohme knows your energy rates, you can then set a max price cap so that your charger will automatically start and stop charging to coincide with your energy tariff's cheapest rates, saving you money.

You can even set a target charge percentage, which the Ohme will try to charge your EV to during your tariff's off-peak rate*

*Depending on the make and model of your car, the Ohme charger will be able to automatically read the vehicle's battery percentage. Please check the API list located in the FAQ section to see if your vehicle works with this feature.

Cost tracking - Yes

+

Track car charging costs, start and stop times and energy usage of past EV charging sessions with the Ohme app's built-in charging session tracker.

Intelligent Octopus Compatible

+

Take advantage of Intelligent Octopus Go's super-cheap off-peak energy rate of 7.5p per kWh, even if your EV is not on Octopus' compatibility list when you choose any Ohme EV charger (including the ePod).

Find out more about Intelligent Octopus in our review.

 OVO Drive Anytime Compatible

+

Ohme chargers feature the ability to sync with unique tariffs like OVO Charge Anytime, allowing you to take advantage of the tariff's super cheap 7p per kWh charging rate without the need of a compatible electric vehicle.

Find out how much you can save by switching to an EV energy tariff using our cost-to-charge tool.

Ohme ePod FAQ

Is my Electric vehicle on the API list?

+

Some car manufacturer's provide an API (Application Programming Interface), which allows your Ohme ePod to access certain information about your car, such as its battery percentage.

Cars that support this function allow your Ohme ePod to automatically charge it to the target percentage you set on your Ohme's smartphone app.

Those manufacturers are:

  • Audi

  • BMW

  • Cupra

  • Hyundai

  • Jaguar

  • Land Rover

  • Kia

  • Mini

  • Nissan (excluding the MK1 Leaf)

  • Renault

  • Skoda

  • Tesla

  • Volkswagen

  • Volvo

If you're car's manufactuer isn't on the list above, then you will need to create a schedule that specifies how much charge you would like to add to the current charge percentage of your vehicle.

For example, if you return home with 20% charge in your vehicle (Most will display the battery percentage on its infotainment screen or a dedicated app if it has one) and you want to top it up to 80%, then you will need to create a schedule with a target charge of 60%.

Can I use the Ohme ePod with a Type 1 cable?

+

Yes you can.

The Ohme ePod features a universal socket, which means that both Type 1 and Type 2 cables can be used.

Does the Ohme ePod come with a cable?

+

No, you'll need to either already have a EV charging cable or purchase one separately.

We have a range of 5m and 10m charging cables on our EV accessories page, all of which are compatible with the Ohme ePod.

Is there a 22kW version of the Ohme ePod?

+

No, the Ohme ePod is only available as a 7.4kW unit. Most UK residential properties however cannot make use of 22kW EV chargers anyway and 7.4kW is more than enough for the majority of EV drivers. Find out why in our guide to 22kW three-phase charging.

Is the Ohme ePod EV Charger "weather-proof"?

+

The Ohme ePod is rated at IP55 for water ingress and is designed to work outside in all weathers.

How do I pair the Ohme ePod with the Ohme app?

+

As part of our standard installation, our engineers will complete the initial app setup on the day of installation.

However, if you need to re-add your Ohme ePod EV charger to the accompanying app post-install then you can follow the instructions on our Ohme epod product support page

Is the Ohme ePod available in different colours?

+

No, the Ohme ePod is only available in black currently.

What is the warranty on the Ohme ePod?

+

There is a 3-year warranty on the product supplied by Ohme. Any issues under warranty should be dealt with directly by Ohme.

Smart Home Charge also provides a one-year installation warranty.

I have a poor mobile phone signal where I live. Can I still use the Ohme ePod?

+

The Ohme ePod has its own SIM card to connect to the UK's mobile data network.

It doesn't link directly to your mobile, but your phone is a good indicator as to whether the Ohme will function correctly in your area.

The Ohme uses 3G and 4G across a variety of networks, so it works well in most areas in the UK but it is worth checking what your mobile phone signal is like in the exact location you want the charger. If it's not particularly strong you may be better off with a charge point that connects to your home WiFi (assuming that is within range).

Where can I find a cyber regulations certificate of compliance for the Ohme ePod?

+

Ohme has issued a statement of compliance for the ePod, which can be found here.

What is the difference between the Ohme Home Pro charger and Ohme ePod?

+

The biggest difference two is that the Ohme Home Pro is a tethered unit (meaning that the charging cable is permenantly attached) and the Ohme ePod is untethered (meaning that you will need to insert a charging cable into it in order to use it).

The Ohme Home Pro charger also has a built in screen for showing statuses and changing charge settings where as the Ohme ePod doesn't and has limited controls from the charge point itself.

The Ohme ePod is also cheaper than the Ohme Home Pro.

Which network does Ohme use?

+

Ohme chargers come built-in with a universal sim card which uses whichever network has the strongest signal in the charge point's area to communicate with Ohme's backend servers.

Whilst signal coverage in the UK is generally good, it's important to check the coverage in the area you plan to have your Ohme charger installed before arranging your installation.

Please refer to the charger placement section of our Home EV charger installation explained guide if you would like more information.

Will there be charge for the data used in Ohme ePod's 4G SIM card?

+

No, Ohme has assured that the data usage for the Ohme Home Pro will be free throughout the lifespan of the charger.

Ohme ePod solar - does it do it?

+

Yes - if your Ohme Home Pro (or Ohme ePod) was installed from January 2023 onwards, your charger will be able to use energy from your solar panels to power your car.

To find out if your Ohme charger is solar compatible, open your Ohme app, tap on "My charger" and look for the "solar charging" box. If it's there, you'll be able to toggle between turning the feature off or charge with solar and grid power.

Please note: The solar feature on the Ohme will only charge a plugged-in vehicle with solar energy if the current generated is more than 1.44kW.

Ohme states that:

"When you plug in your vehicle while Solar Boost is enabled, Ohme will wait until a certain threshold of solar energy is generated to start charging (typically, around 0.72kW of power). Ohme will then top up the charge with 0.72kW of power from the grid to meet the minimum charging rate for electric vehicles (1.44kW of power).

The more solar power you generate, the less energy Ohme will draw from the grid. For example, on a cloudy day there may be insufficient solar export to reach the minimum charging rate of the vehicle, resulting in a maximum of a 50/50 split between solar and grid usage. In contrast, on a really sunny day, providing the solar array is large enough, there may be sufficient solar export to charge the vehicle without drawing from the grid."

Will there be charge for the data used in Ohme's 4G SIM card?

+

No, Ohme has assured that the data usage for the Ohme ePod will be free throughout the lifespan of the charger.

Installation FAQs

Will my property need works or upgrades to the electricity supply before installation of an EV charge point?

+

Many customers will not need any upgrades to their electricity supply before having an EV charger installed. All installers are however required to notify the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) of any EV charger installations, who will advise you and us if an upgrade to your property’s main fuse is necessary. This depends on your property’s “maximum demand” estimate, (which is submitted by our in-house technicians to your DNO as part of our process), the size of the main fuse or if your property is on a looped supply (connected to your neighbour). Any potential works will be handled by your DNO and they will contact you directly if this is the case.

How do I get a quote for my EV charger installation?

+

If you have an EV or plug-in hybrid, or have one on order, then you are ready to get a charger installation quote. Simply choose the electric car charger you like the look of and select "Request a Quote" at the top of this page. Don't worry if you're not 100% sure on the charger - there will be time to swap this before payment if your change your mind.

Why isn’t my quote the same as the price on the website?

+

Every installation is unique, which is why we ask you to complete our remote Online Site Survey. We need to properly assess the work involved in order to give you an accurate and honest quote. Our website prices are meant to be a guide and show the minimum cost for an installation of each particular charger. So, that means the quote we email to you may be different to the price on the website.

How long will it be until my EV charger is installed?

+

Typically this is one to four weeks after payment. The main factors that affect your installation date are your remote site survey completion time and whether your DNO needs to complete any upgrades to your electricity supply before we install your charger. We keep you updated at each stage of the process, but you can help keep things moving by completing your remote site survey quickly.

My car isn’t listed on your website. Does that mean I can’t get a charger installation from Smart Home Charge?

+

You can still get an installation from us even if you can’t find your vehicle on our website. Simply “Request a Quote” for the charger you like and tell us which vehicle you have in the quote form. Our EV database is updated regularly but are not meant to be a definitive guide – there are simply too many new EVs and plug-in hybrids being launched for us to keep up!

Do you install EV charge points in my area?

+

Smart Home Charge is a nationwide installer, covering England, Scotland and Wales. We have experienced engineers covering all major cities and regions. Find out if we install EV chargers in your area with our location checker.

Will you set up my charge point app?

+

Yes. Our engineers will complete the initial setup and pairing of the charger app with the charge point itself as this is considered as part of the installation. However, the engineers are not required to demonstrate how the app works or set up any schedules for you. Visit our EV charger support section for useful tips and troubleshooting.

Are you able to process my OZEV Grant claim?

+

Yes we can. We are however unable to apply for the grant on your behalf. For more information on the grants that the government has to offer and how to apply for them, please check out our grants and incentives guide.

As an installer, Smart Home Charge does not approve or reject your claim and a successful charger installation does not mean your claim was approved. It can take up to three months post installation for confirmation of approval or rejection of your claim from the Government.
