NexBlue Point 2 FAQs

What is NexBlue FlexShare?

+

NexBlue FlexShare is an optional rewards programme that allows you to earn money by helping support the electricity grid.

When you join FlexShare, your charger can intelligently shift eligible charging sessions to times when there's lower demand or more renewable energy available. You remain in control of when your vehicle needs to be ready.

How much can I earn?

When you sign up to FlexShare, you'll receive a £10 welcome bonus. After that, you'll receive £5 every month, provided you meet the scheme's eligibility requirements.

Does it cost anything to join?

No. FlexShare is completely free to join, and you can leave the scheme at any time if you decide it's no longer right for you.

Will FlexShare decide when I can charge my car?

No. You're always in control of your charging.

FlexShare may shift eligible charging sessions to better times for the grid, but your charging schedule is still designed around when you need your vehicle to be ready.

How do I sign up?

Simply open the myNexBlue app and navigate to the EcoPilot section, where you can register for FlexShare in just a few taps.

Is there a minimum amount I need to charge?

No. There is no minimum energy requirement.

To remain eligible for FlexShare rewards, you simply need to complete two charging sessions each month.

How do I receive my rewards?

Your rewards are added to your FlexShare balance within the myNexBlue app.

Once your balance reaches £15, you can withdraw your money directly to your bank account by entering your sort code and account number.

Is FlexShare compatible with all electricity tariffs?

No. FlexShare isn't compatible with intelligent tariffs that already manage your EV charging, including Intelligent Octopus Go, Octopus Flux, OVO Charge Anytime and other similar intelligent tariff packages.

Can I leave the scheme if I change my mind?

Yes. FlexShare is entirely optional, and you can leave the scheme whenever you like.

Can the NexBlue Point 2 be used as both a tethered and untethered charger?

+

Yes. The NexBlue Point 2 gives you the flexibility to switch between tethered and untethered charging.

Simply insert your charging cable and lock it into the charger via the myNexBlue app to create a tethered charging experience. Unlock the cable at any time if you prefer the flexibility of an untethered charger.

Does the NexBlue Point 2 work with my electric vehicle?

+

Yes. The NexBlue Point 2 features a universal socket, making it compatible with all electric vehicles sold in the UK.

It supports both Type 2 and Type 1 charging cables, so it can be used with newer vehicles as well as older models that require a Type 1 connection.

Does the NexBlue Point 2 support solar charging?

+

Yes. Solar charging functionality comes as standard with the NexBlue Point 2.

If your home has solar panels installed, the charger can intelligently use surplus solar energy to charge your electric vehicle, helping reduce your reliance on grid electricity and lower charging costs.

Does the NexBlue Point 2 support dynamic load balancing?

+

Yes. Every NexBlue Point 2 includes a wired CT clamp for dynamic load balancing.

This allows the charger to monitor your home's electricity usage in real time and automatically adjust charging speeds to prevent your electrical supply from becoming overloaded.

Does the NexBlue Point 2 require WiFi?

+

No. While WiFi connectivity is supported, the NexBlue Point 2 also features built-in 4G eSIM connectivity and Ethernet support.

This means your charger can continue accessing smart charging features even if your home WiFi connection becomes unavailable.

Is there a subscription fee for the built-in 4G connectivity?

+

No. The NexBlue Point 2 includes a lifetime 4G eSIM subscription, allowing the charger to remain connected without any ongoing subscription costs.

What is Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G)?

+

Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) is a technology that allows compatible electric vehicles to not only draw electricity from the grid but also send energy back when it's needed.

In the future, this could allow you to use your EV to help power your home during peak electricity prices or even earn money by supplying energy back to the grid.

The NexBlue Point 2 is built on the ISO 15118 communication standard and is designed to be ready for future technologies such as Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) and Plug & Charge. You will however need to specialist equipment in order to enable this compatibility, which is currently not available through Smart Home Charge.

While V2G is still in its early stages in the UK and currently only supported by a small number of compatible vehicles and energy tariffs, choosing a V2G-ready charger like the NexBlue Point 2 helps future-proof your home charging setup as the technology becomes more widely available.

Installation FAQs

Will my property need works or upgrades to the electricity supply before installation of an EV charge point?

+

Many customers will not need any upgrades to their electricity supply before having an EV charger installed.

All installers are however required to notify the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) of any EV charger installations, who will advise you and us if an upgrade to your property’s main fuse is necessary.

This depends on your property’s “maximum demand” estimate, (which is submitted by our in-house technicians to your DNO as part of our process), the size of the main fuse or if your property is on a looped supply (connected to your neighbour).

Any potential works will be handled by your DNO and they will contact you directly if this is the case.

How do I get a quote for my EV charger installation?

+

If you have an EV or plug-in hybrid, or have one on order, then you are ready to get a charger installation quote. Simply choose the electric car charger you like the look of and select "Request a Quote" at the top of this page. Don't worry if you're not 100% sure on the charger - there will be time to swap this before payment if your change your mind.

Why isn’t my quote the same as the price on the website?

+

Every installation is unique, which is why we ask you to complete our remote Online Site Survey. We need to properly assess the work involved in order to give you an accurate and honest quote. Our website prices are meant to be a guide and show the minimum cost for an installation of each particular charger. So, that means the quote we email to you may be different to the price on the website.

How long will it be until my EV charger is installed?

+

Typically this is one to four weeks after payment. The main factors that affect your installation date are your remote site survey completion time and whether your DNO needs to complete any upgrades to your electricity supply before we install your charger. We keep you updated at each stage of the process, but you can help keep things moving by completing your remote site survey quickly.

My car isn’t listed on your website. Does that mean I can’t get a charger installation from Smart Home Charge?

+

You can still get an installation from us even if you can’t find your vehicle on our website. Simply “Request a Quote” for the charger you like and tell us which vehicle you have in the quote form. Our EV database is updated regularly but are not meant to be a definitive guide – there are simply too many new EVs and plug-in hybrids being launched for us to keep up!

Do you install EV charge points in my area?

+

Smart Home Charge is a nationwide installer, covering England, Scotland and Wales. We have experienced engineers covering all major cities and regions. Find out if we install EV chargers in your area with our location checker.

Will you set up my charge point app?

+

Yes. Our engineers will complete the initial setup and pairing of the charger app with the charge point itself as this is considered as part of the installation. However, the engineers are not required to demonstrate how the app works or set up any schedules for you. Visit our EV charger support section for useful tips and troubleshooting.

Are you able to process my OZEV Grant claim?

+

Yes we can. We are however unable to apply for the grant on your behalf. For more information on the grants that the government has to offer and how to apply for them, please check out our grants and incentives guide.

As an installer, Smart Home Charge does not approve or reject your claim and a successful charger installation does not mean your claim was approved. It can take up to three months post installation for confirmation of approval or rejection of your claim from the Government.
